Covid-related services at your local clinic

Clinics are not administering the vaccine, they are only doing Covid tests.

Between the numbers of people flooding clinics to get their Covid-19 tests, and the various vaccination sites throughout the community, one may become confused as to the kind of services that are offered at one’s local clinic.

Manager for clinics in Region C, Rose Legwale said clinics are not administering the vaccine; they are only doing Covid tests. “Clinics are not administering vaccines because that will lead to overcrowding and we need to avoid that. At the vaccination sites we administer two vaccines – the Johnson & Johnson for teachers, and the Pfizer for the community. The Pfizer comes in two doses.” She said there are several vaccinations sites, among them the Roodepoort Town Hall, Zandspruit Shopping Centre, and Witpoortjie Recreation Centre.

Citizens that are 50 years or older are now eligible to get vaccinated, together with the 60 or older age group and teachers. Legwale said community members who fall within those groups can still register online for the vaccine. “We encourage the community to come to be vaccinated even if they are not registered on the EVDS. They must bring their ID or passport to the vaccination site, with a cell phone number that will be used to send them a message and a reminder for the second dose of the Pfizer vaccine,” Legwale reiterated.
