Fore! Ebenezer House Golf Day a huge success
On Thursday, 27 May, Ebenezer House hosted a golf day at the Krugersdorp Golf Club, hoping to raise some much-needed funds.
Ebenezer House is a Witpoortjie-based non-profit organisation that cares for and supports adults suffering from severe mental illnesses.
The permanent residents either cannot afford private healthcare, or their families being unable to cope has left them with nowhere else to go. At Ebenezer House, the residents are in a supportive and nurturing environment where carers, psychiatrists and social workers help them get through each day with exercise regimes, skills development, creative and practical workshops, and medical treatment.
On Thursday, 27 May, the home hosted a golf day at the Krugersdorp Golf Club, hoping to raise some much-needed funds for their daily needs and for their art programme. The more creative residents at Ebenezer spend a lot of their free time time painting, knitting, mosaicking and beading to make stunning gifts that they sell to raise money for more art supplies.
Despite the initial struggle to get sponsors and players, the golf day wound up being a huge success, with 15 teams of four players each participating, and 17 generous donors sponsoring one of the 18 holes on the course. The winning team, made up of Stephen Joseph, André Swartz, Heinrich van der Westhuizen and Shaun Martin each took home a midweek accommodation prize for two children and two adults at the ATKV Buffelspoort holiday resort.
“We would like to thank the community for their support in sponsoring holes, supplying prizes, and playing golf to make the day a success,” praised Lee-Ann Scholtz, the home’s manager.
