It is alleged that two years ago the electricity supply cable was cut off at the back of the shack, and the new supplier connected on the same plug the previous supplier used.

The cut-off cable became live again and when it touched the shack, the electric current ran through the entire shack and caused the electrocution.

According to Eskom, many residents in informal settlements continue to connect electricity illegally, ignoring cautions that electricity is extremely powerful and can be deadly if not treated with care and respect.

The Northsider approached Muldersdrift Police for comment, but none has been received yet.
