Water pressure issues may be experienced as demand outweighs supply

At the request of Rand Water, restrictions have been placed on several Joburg Water reservoirs, meaning some areas may experience little to no water pressure. Residents are asked to use water sparingly.

The City of Johannesburg’s bulk water supplier, Rand Water, has indicated that their distribution network is currently under severe strain. The network has been put under pressure due to the fact that the demand for water has been consistently exceeding the supply.

Consequently, Rand Water has requested that Joburg Water implement preventative water restriction measures to ensure that a situation whereby both water systems collapse is avoided. Joburg Water has therefore restricted many of its reservoirs by between 20 to 45 per cent. This means that some of the areas fed by the affected reservoirs may experience little to no water pressure.

Joburg Water has said that an alternative water supply will be rolled out to the affected areas and water tankers will be deployed when they are needed.

Areas that may experience lessened water pressure are fed from the following reservoirs (in alphabetical order):

• Abbatoir and Market
• Bram Fischerville Ext 12 and Bram Fischer
• Chiawelo Reservoir
• Corriemoor Reservoir
• Diepkloof Reservoir
• Diepsloot Town
• Doornkop North
• Doornkop Reservoir

• Bertha Street, Florida North
• On the corner of Helpmekaar Road and Smelt Avenue
• On the corner of Halite and Buttercup Roads
• On the corner of Cosmos Road and Malacite Avenue
• On the corner of Hyacinth Road and Beryl Avenue, next to the Future Nation School

Residents throughout the City of Johannesburg are asked to use water sparingly and report any burst pipes or leaks to the City’s call centre and on social media. The Joburg Water call centre can be reached on 011 375 5555 or by sending an SMS to 076 333 5052.
