I had a passenger in my car, a friend, when an accident happened in front of us on Sunday, 28 February. A Mr Delivery scooter went through a red light; didn’t make orange in time.

A Mercedes-Benz hit him as he crossed Beyers Naudé Drive, on the corner of Blueberry Street in Honeydew. The bike was a write-off but the accident will leave me with nightmares for months.

The bike was on Beyers Naudé Drive, crossing Blueberry Street through the red traffic light, and the Mercedes was driving on Blueberry Street straight over Beyers Naudé Drive.

It was horrendous. The rider stood up after being hit by the car, the tar and the bike, and walked – a miracle if you would ask me.

The Mercedes driver returned to the intersection to pick up his number plate, and that is when the Beyers Naudé Drive traffic light turned green, and I drove away.

I was in front, I stopped when the light was orange, and a car next to me stopped as it turned red. Seconds later the bike flew past us.
