First splash after Covid restrictions

Covid-19 restrictions left an eerie atmosphere at most sporting facilities as most sporting codes were barred from any activities for the greater part of last year.

The inactivity came to an end in February when the governing bodies lifted the ban, which meant most sporting codes could resume training with immediate effect before competing from March onwards.

“The eagerness and excitement of the water lions (our swimmers) were evident and finally the day arrived for our first practice. With all protocols in place, one by one the learners came down to the pool under the guidance and coaching of Mrs Fisher, and educator-in-charge (EIC) Mrs Goncalves-Naicker,” Roxanne Robertson, the school’s head of marketing reflected on this memorable and fun day.

“From the first dive into the pool to their first 25m sprint, the water lions’ spirit and eagerness could be felt by all present. Soon it seemed as though no time had passed, as they pushed through the feeling of being unfit, ready to dominate once again,” she said.

“A vast improvement can be seen in their performance with every training session, and once the regulations have been further eased, we hope to be ready to continue where we left off – on top of our game,” an optimistic Roxanne said.
