Johannesburg Road Agency closes section of Albertina Sisulu Road

A new speed limit of 40 kilometres per hour will also be in place during the temporary road closure.

Aging infrastructure pushed to breaking point by torrential rain has left motorists facing the inconvenience of a short detour.

A section of Albertina Sisulu Road has been closed after parts the road collapsed due to a damaged storm water pipe that runs beneath the road. A detour has been created that utilises nearby residential streets to round the section directly in front of Cecil Payne Stadium. Commuters will now need to use Natalie and Noreen Streets to access Rebecca Street which runs parallel with Albertina Sisulu Road.

A new speed limit of 40 kilometres per hour will also be in place during the temporary road closure. Motorists are advised to drive cautiously on the usually quiet suburban roads, especially on Natalie Street which is home to Unified Public School.

Johannesburg Roads Agency has yet to provide details as to when repairs will begin or what the expected duration of the closure will be.
