WATCH: Commotion outside court as accused murder-rapists take the stand

The incident happened on the evening of 21 August at the victim’s residence in Dobsonville.

The ANC Women’s League supported by some members of the EFF from Ward 47 were baying for blood outside the Roodepoort Magistrates’ Court demanding bail to be denied to two murder and rape accused.

The two suspects facing charges of robbery, murder and the rape of two women from Soweto appeared in court on Tuesday, 6 October, but the matter was postponed for bail application.

The duo reportedly was arrested last month after they were linked to the murder and rape of a 59-year-old woman and her daughter, 21, who survived the brutal assault.

The incident happened on the evening of 21 August at the victim’s residence in Dobsonville.

Speaking to Ntombi Masondo, a furious representative of the Women’s League, she said the whole demonstration outside the court was to show support to the bereaved family and to put pressure on the court to deny the two culprits bail.

“We are here in solidarity with the Dobsonville family that lost its family member, a slain woman who, with her daughter, was rapped during a home invasion last month. The mother was murdered in the process and fortunately, her daughter managed to survive and was taken to hospital,” she said.

“We are here to put pressure on the justice system to deny them bail and speed up prosecution,” she further justified their large presence.

Both accused were remanded in custody for a formal bail application for 20 October.

However, Ntombi alluded that both suspects should abandon bail if they want to live. “As it seems that they want to be out on bail, they should think twice about making that bail application because as the community we are waiting for them, and we promise to take the law into our own hands,” she warned.
