Caring and sharing warm the heart

She added that they also handed out 225 plates of warm food to the women on the day.

In celebration of Women’s Month, and keeping to the theme of empowering fellow women, the staff and management from Boss Lady Network SA put their money where their mouths are, and did just that.

Olivia Hutton, the founder of Boss Lady Network SA, decided in 2018 that she wanted to help women by restoring their dignity and empowering them. But, she also wanted to make a difference in the community by giving something back, and, specifically, helping the vulnerable women in these communities.

On Sunday, 30 August, the team visited the community in Kathrada Park in Claremont, where they blessed 210 women and girls, some of them as young as 13, with a care package. Monique Losper, an employee of Boss Lady Network SA, explained, “We wished to hand out 200 care packages, and asked the community to help us with donations, or to sponsor R60 for a package. Throughout the month of August, we received donations for about 100 packs and Olivia matched it. When we ended up counting we had 210 packs as some donations were in the form of a complete care pack and had an extra tooth paste or packet of sanitary pads in it, so we could make up the extra 10.”

She added that they also handed out 225 plates of warm food to the women on the day.

The overall reaction from the women and girls was excitement and gratitude. “The excitement and gratitude displayed when they received these donations were immense. To think that something as small as a bar of soap, roll-on deodorant, sanitary pads, toothbrush, toothpaste and a facecloth can bring so much joy, is heart-warming,” Monique said.

The success of this charity drive left the staff and management of the company feeling motivated and ready to bless some more communities. Monique concluded by saying, “After the success of this year’s drive, we are already aiming for 500 next year as we have decided that this will be an annual drive”.
