Poorte youth takes part in virtual rugby tournaments

Four log points are awarded to a club for every win, and in the case of a draw both clubs get two log points.

Covid-19 regulations saw SA Rugby make an announcement earlier this year confirming that all club rugby in South Africa has been cancelled for 2020.

However, the idea of virtual rugby tournaments surfaced and saw 22 clubs participating in 11 weeks of virtual rugby tournaments sponsored by Langa Property Management & Guarding.

Roodepoort Rugby Youth League faced off against Wasps Rugby Club South Africa in the first-round match-up of the Langa Security GLRU Youth Rugby Inter Club Competition.

“Our virtual season has started, Roodepoort RC, let’s get playing and voting, and help our Roodepoort Rugby Youth League win this,” said Club chairman Mathys Booyens.

This year has seen the rise of a club season like never before, with even more excitement while rugby fans cast their votes by clicking on their favourite club with one eye on the weekly voter prizes.

Voting in Round 1 closed at 10pm on Friday, 7 August. Saturday, 8 August saw the beginning of Round 2 where all clubs played new opposition, and the voting started again.

Four log points are awarded to a club for every win, and in the case of a draw both clubs get two log points. A loss does not earn any log points.

The log standings go up every Saturday morning to give everyone an idea of where their respective clubs stand.

The Langa Security GLRU Youth Rugby Inter-Club Competition works as follows:

•11 rounds of rugby over the next 11 weeks

• The public gets to vote for the team they want to win

• All rounds will start every Saturday

• Voting will close the following Saturday at the time indicated by the poll

• The current standing logs will be uploaded every Saturday

• 1st, 2nd and 3rd positions will be determined by their final log standings
