West Rand NPO preparing to reap what they sow

Evolving from their urban gardening initiative, iPlant is a volunteer-based food scheme that puts an emphasis on community cooperation and the rewards of hard work

The foundations of any great civilization can be found in its mastery and pride of its agricultural endeavours.

Not only does it bind together a community, but most importantly inculcates an appreciation for the potential of the soil.

A Florida-based organisation is looking to spread that message through the simple act of gardening. His Choice Ministries NPO is a youth movement comprised of multi-talented, highly skilled and deeply compassionate community members who through their various projects aim to create sustainable change.

Evolving from their urban gardening initiative, iPlant is a volunteer-based food scheme that puts an emphasis on community cooperation and the rewards of hard work.

The project aims to bring together members of the community who have the shared vision of pooling together their resources, mainly land, seed or Labour, in order to ensure sustainable food security. Angelo Doyle, director of His Choice, has been working his hands to the bone in order to ensure the ground is quite literally prepared.

“This is a call to action. We are taking the steps towards food security for the nation,” declared Angelo.

“We want to bring people to a place of hope and share the joy of experiencing a successful harvest,” he continued.

Assisting to drive the project is Key Leader Teresa Groenewald, with iPlant operating as a sophisticated network of coordinated volunteers and team leaders. “Each volunteer will get a unique reference number, area leaders will be appointed, and we will also have aerial view maps of our allotments,” ensured Angelo.

His Choice has also obtained essential-service permits for its volunteers who will be formally contracted, ensuring that all volunteers adhere to the applicable directives.

The project is open to anyone who wishes to be part of a greater movement to ensure the community’s food security. Donors of seed and implements have been lined up, and whether one has a small allotment of land or simply their green fingers to offer, every bit helps.

Those wishing to get involved can contact Angelo on 062 307 5492, Teresa on 0623075492 or His Choice at iplant@hischoice.co.za.
