Covid-19 cases skyrocket on the West Rand

The West Rand has 36 confirmed infections, according to a report released on Wednesday, 15 April.

The number of confirmed Covid-19 cases on the West Rand has skyrocketed in the past few days.

According to a report the Gauteng Provincial Health Department released on Wednesday, 15 April, the number of cases on the West Rand has increased from 12 reported cases on 11 April, to a staggering 36 infections to date.

However, the West Rand remains one of the regions with the lowest number of confirmed infections, after Sedibeng which has only six cases. The total number of confirmed Covid-19 cases in Gauteng sits at 909, with the highest infections in Johannesburg sitting at 551, followed by Tshwane with 100.

The Department stated that 62 people are currently being treated in various health facilities, and that they are encouraged by the fact that most of the Covid-19 patients have not needed hospitalisation.

Another positive aspect is that 399 of the people who were confirmed positive in the province already recovered.
