Elderly’s bad experience at supermarket in Featherbrooke

While relieved to have recovered his cellphone, he said he was disappointed that the two thieves were allowed to leave the store without being stopped.

An elderly resident, who almost lost his phone to cellphone snatchers inside a prominent retail store, advised residents, especially the elderly, to be extra vigilant when they need to go out.

The 62-year-old man told the Northsider that he went to do quick shopping at a local supermarket when pickpockets attempted to steal his cellphone.

“While inside the store a woman bumped against me, and at the same time she stole my phone. Luckily, I realised it immediately and ran to the entrance and was able to block her and her accomplice. I shouted for the two security guards to help me to stop them, but they did nothing to help me,” he alleged.

“A wide-awake and alert cashier saw the suspect throwing my phone into the street, and she immediately ran to recover it for me,” he said.

While relieved to have recovered his cellphone, he said he was disappointed that the two thieves were allowed to leave the store without being stopped.

“The manager did not even ask if I was okay; he showed no concern at all. The cashier, on the other hand, was wonderful and very concerned about my well-being. Residents of Featherbrooke are not safe in this store,” he warned.
