Truck stopped before reaching Doreen Road

“In a conversation with the truck driver, I told him that he just saved the truck and his job,” said Florence.

The suggested hot spot to monitor the trucks between Ouklip and CR Swart Roads in Wilro Park as initiated by Ward 83 councillor, Florence Roberts seems to be bearing fruit.

This after the Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) prevented yet another truck from heading towards Doreen Road on Wednesday, 18 March.

Roberts said she made the suggestion during a meeting with JMPD to catch the trucks before getting onto Doreen Road.

“JMPD was at the right place at the right time,” she said, adding that most truck drivers have no idea what lies ahead. She alluded that some get onto Doreen and underestimate the steep hill, not realising what awaits them on the other side.

“In a conversation with the truck driver, I told him that he just saved the truck and his job,” said Florence.

She explained that she had a meeting with the Joburg Roads Agency (JRA) regarding addressing the visibility of signage on the road.

“I’m very pleased that we’ve been granted permission to install a yellow flashing board to warn the trucks and I look forward to having it installed. With this, they won’t get away with the excuse that they didn’t see the signage because of illegal advertising,” she explained.

She further applauded JMPD for constantly monitoring this road. “JMPD doesn’t have the capacity to be on Doreen all the time because of other commitments, but I’m very happy with their response on this road,” she said.
