Mozambique escape plan thwarted by police

Seven suspects planning to skip the border were traced and arrested following an intensive three-day search by the police.

According to Honeydew Police spokesperson, Captain Balan Muthan, the suspects were arrested in the early hours of 16 March after following up on a tip-off about their whereabouts.

“The seven suspects were arrested after information was followed up for a while about them wanting to leave the country for Mozambique after committing crimes in the area,” he said.

The criminals were arrested en route in a Toyota Quantum.

“They were found in possession of three firearms, which have been linked to numerous house robberies, murders and attempts in and around the Honeydew and Douglasdale policing areas,” Muthan explained.

He added that they were also found with over 30 cellphones, cameras and housebreaking implements, which were all recovered.

Muthan concluded by saying that the suspects were formally charged and are set to appear in the respective courts.
