It was reported on social media that the residents of the informal settlement began to protest on Beyers Naude Drive and Marina Road, hurling stones at passing vehicles.

Muthan said the panic followed the disconnection of illegal electricity supply cables on Tuesday, 3 March.

He further clarified that the roads remain open and police continue to keep a watchful eye on the area.

Ward 114 councillor, Victor Mafinya told Northsider that a group of individuals – those responsible for connecting power illegally – attempted to reconnect the cables but were prevented by the police, which stopped them from protesting as well.
