Resident wants City Parks to maintain its property

He emphasised that the residents could be easy targets because criminals can use the area as a hiding place and target them when entering or exiting their properties.

A Weltevreden Park resident is living in fear. He attributes it to neglect by Joburg City Parks, which he accuses of neglecting one of their open green areas.

The worried resident, Johan Kruger, said that he lodged a complaint about the unmaintained bush (known as a bird sanctuary) on Wildebraam Street which he believes to be a security risk, in addition to being untidy.

“I logged a request to City Parks on 8 February 2019 and got a reference number for them to cut trees, remove weeds and clean the cul-de-sac at the end of Wildebraam Street in Weltevreden Park, but it seems my request has fallen on deaf ears,” he lamented.

He emphasised that the residents could be easy targets because criminals can use the area as a hiding place and target them when entering or exiting their properties.

“When I had garden services, I used to clean this area myself, but I don’t have that service anymore,” he said. “It is City Parks’ responsibility to maintain City property. I also reported the matter to Ward 126 councillor David Brand.”

Brand said he had escalated the problem at least four times, but without success. “I will get hold of the local City Parks regional manager and give it a push,” he responded.

The Northsider still awaits a response from Joburg City Parks.
