Weltevreden Park resident falls victim to hijacking

A search grid was established with the assistance of tracking resources and it emerged that the vehicle and victim were taken in the direction of Eldorado Park/ Soweto.

On Wednesday, 29 January an Audi A3 was hijacked on Windsurf Street. The owner of the vehicle was also abducted by the hijackers.

At about 9.15pm Honeydew CPF patrollers were alerted by Panorama Residents Association members about shots that were fired within their area.

CPF members were dispatched immediately and further updates directed them to Windsurf Street where a hijacking had taken place.

The patrollers immediately secured the scene and relayed information to various security services to be on the lookout for the hijacked Audi.

A search grid was established with the assistance of tracking resources and it emerged that the vehicle and victim were taken in the direction of Eldorado Park/ Soweto.

Units from the police and various security companies were alerted and the area was searched.

Unfortunately there was no sign of the victim or the vehicle, and at about 12.10am members of the family received a call from the victim.

The police and a family member fetched him and took him to a local hospital to be examined and treated for a few injuries.

“We thank Panorama Residents Association, Beagle Watch and EC Security for their prompt response in backing up members and residents on scene,” said Honeydew CPF Public Relations Officer, Michael Steyn.

Honeydew Police spokesperson, Captain Balan Muthan confirmed that a case of hijacking was opened at Honeydew Police Station and that the matter is currently being investigated.
