Charity drive for the less fortunate

The charity drive was in support of the non-profit organisation, National Children and Violence Trust.

Friday, 22 November saw a number of learners from Weltevreden Park Primary school embark on a charitable challenge that made a big difference to the less fortunate in the community.

Assisted by their parents and teachers, the learners organised and carried through a charity drive, which entailed collecting a substantial amount of food for underprivileged women and children.

Community Councillor and Head boy, Dashielle Naidoo said, “It’s our job as children to make the world a little less cruel and heartless through good deeds”.

The charity drive was in support of the non-profit organisation, National Children and Violence Trust (NCVT).

NCVT supports vulnerable groups such as abused and violated women and children, the unemployed, and those living with HIV/AIDS in some of the most impoverished informal settlements in North and West Gauteng.

Communities that benefit from this initiative are the informal settlements of Cosmo City, Diepsloot, Honeydew/ Zandspruit, Itsoseng and Lanseria.

One of the teachers, Kirsten Pretorius said, “We try to instil a sense of social responsibility and a culture of giving in our learners. On a weekly basis we collect goods and money, which we use for different causes, such as families dealing with cancer, soup kitchens, our own school feeding scheme, and soccer kits for underprivileged clubs
