Restaurant robbers nabbed within two hours

At approximately 1.13pm, the suspects entered the restaurant on Plot 44 in Steynsvlei, pretending to be customers. One of them pulled out a gun, and proceeded to hold everyone in the restaurant at gunpoint.

 

Four suspects thought they had made a lucky escape after robbing a business in Muldersdrift on Monday, 1 July.

However, in less than two hours, the suspects, whose ages range from 26 to 39, were arrested after their getaway vehicle was spotted by officers in the area.

At approximately 1.13pm, the suspects entered the restaurant on Plot 44 in Steynsvlei, pretending to be customers. One of them pulled out a gun, and proceeded to hold everyone in the restaurant at gunpoint.

According to the Muldersdrift Police spokesperson, Constable Slindile Ntuli, an undisclosed amount of money, cigarettes, a plasma television and eleven cellphones belonging to customers were stolen during the ordeal.

Initially, the suspects were said to have fled in a navy VW Golf. However, Constable Ntuli said the investigating officer, Sergeant Mosome, re-interviewed the witness and established that it was in fact a navy BMW that was used during the incident.

“Detective Warrant Officer Masango and Constable Lerefolo spotted the BMW at Foodzone in Muldersdrift and immediately informed Sergeant Mosome, who was still at the scene of the robbery.

He proceeded with the witness to Foodzone where the witness identified the vehicle and pointed out one of the suspects.”

She added that one cellphone was immediately recovered from the vehicle. “The four suspects aged between 26 to 39, were immediately arrested and the plasma television, cigarettes and one cellphone (out of 11) were recovered in the home of one of the suspects the following day (Tuesday),” she explained, adding that the investigation continues.

The Muldersdrift Police station commander, Lieutenant Colonel Mankontsho Setlhare, thanked his members for their excellent detective skills.
