The Undertakers trump Golden Drifters

Panorama and Golden Drifters met in friendlies across all four Academy age groups.

Two strong West Rand clubs locked horns in friendly games on Saturday, 9 February, with Panorama coming out on top in all four with 34 goals in total, conceding only four.

The day of friendly matches got under way with the U/13 game kicking off shortly after 9am with Golden Drifters hoping to upset the home side. They were unable to do so however, as a strong Panorama side managed to finish the game on cloud nine, having put nine goals past the Golden Drifters defence to win 9–1.

The next game was the U/19s which was a game very similar to the one that came before, with Panorama benefiting from a number of strong players who were trialling with the club. Panorama extended their total goal tally to 18 for the day, as the club’s most senior Academy side bar the SAB League team went on to win 9–0.

While the U/19s were running away with the game on the one field, the U/15s kicked off on the other field and struggled to get going, missing a host of chances to take a comfortable lead. The Undertakers did, however, firmly take control of the match in the final third of the game, going from a 1–1 scoreline to bagging eight more goals for a 9–1 victory.

As the U/15s were beginning to find their stride and dominate the game, the U/17 match kicked off following the conclusion of the U/19 game. This was Golden Drifters’ best hope of a victory, as it included a host of players from the U/15 team that won the Mogale City Local Football Association League for the third time last year. Things looked a lot more promising for the boys from Zandspruit as the score stood at 2–2 at halftime. Panorama’s U/17s refused to be the only ones with less than a handful of goals however, and in the second half managed to put five more goals in the net to come out on top as 7–2 victors.
