Yet another truck careers off William Nicol Drive

The accident occurred at about 2pm this afternoon.

This afternoon, William Nicol Drive in Florida Park added yet another truck to its long list of vehicles that have crashed coming down its perilous slope towards Life Flora Hospital.

The truck was travelling down William Nicol when it went off the road and ploughed through palisades, bushes, and signs before finally coming to a halt against old signage framework. While the reason why the driver left the road is not yet officially known, it is believed by residents near the accident scene that the driver realised he wouldn’t be able to stop before the traffic lights, and instead of rear-ending the cars at the intersection, he opted to veer off the road.

According to Netcare 911 spokesperson, Nick Dolman, the driver of the truck was seriously injured and had to be intubated. He is now en route to a government hospital. The passenger sustained only minor injuries however, and was stabilised on scene by ER24 paramedics.

Regardless of the cause of the accident, the driver at least had the presence of mind to veer off the road away from traffic to avoid any possible casualties.

According to residents, the palisade the truck went through is set to be replaced for the third time in a matter of months.
