It has been yet another great year for the school, whose learners have excelled on various fronts throughout. One of the areas where the school has been typically impressive, is academics. The prize-giving, which also served as the school’s senior honours evening, paid homage to the immense efforts put in by the senior primary Charteronians this year.

The evening started off fittingly as the Grade 6s bade farewell to the outgoing Grade 7 class with a touching adaptation of Robbie Williams’ Angels, titled You’re Going to High School Instead. Following that was the first moment for past pupils to come up on stage and reminisce on their time at the school, as well as provide encouragement for the Grade 7s (more groups of past pupils would go on stage through the evening).

Learners in Grades 4, 5, 6, and 7 were then recognised for their academic achievements this year, with the Top 5 (actually six) in Grade 6 and in Grade 7 (actually top seven) announced as well. Following that was the awarding of individual trophies for various sporting, academic, and cultural achievements.

The school’s 2019 house captains were announced too, as were the 2019 monitors. The head monitors to take over from Noa Hill and Ethan Plath were named as Carys Janssen and Matthew O’Connor.

The evening ended in a fitting manner with the old learners, Grade 7s and the school’s vocal group joining together to sing the school song and national anthem, but not before the group walked off stage lead by the school’s bagpipe group.
