More donations needed to assist firemen

"Fireman packs are needed on a daily basis to provide support to firefighters when there are fires that take many hours and days to extinguish," Rene explained.

The recent destructive blazes which broke out in the city, one of which left three City of Johannesburg firefighters dead and many others exhausted, have opened the eyes of many to what firefighters go through at fiery scenes.

The Bank of Lisbon building fire in the city centre that took several days to extinguish has become a blessing in disguise for firefighters, as Ward 71 councillor, Rene Benjamin, has taken the initiative to canvass for more refreshments to be donated as firemen go through similar devastating fires frequently, although few catch the media’s attention.

“What is not known to residents is that the firefighters battle blazes on a daily basis that sometimes take hours and days to extinguish. Fireman packs are needed every day, to provide the same support to the firefighters as was provided recently,” Rene explained, reminding the residents and organisations of the impact they recently made.

She added, “We are appealing to residents and businesses to please continue to making donations as this is an ongoing need and not all fires make the news”.

She said items sought are water, energy drinks, energy bars, small packets of chips, small packet of biscuits, fruits, eye drops and lotion.

To donate, contact Abby on 079 999 1388 or email her at abby@hwfoundation.co.za; or WhatsApp Rene on 073 734 0061.
