Firefighters to be remembered

Mduduzi Ndlovu, Khathutshelo Muedi and Simphiwe Moropane, who have been hailed as unsung heroes by residents of the city, will be remembered on Wednesday, 12 September.

 

A memorial service has been planned for the three firefighters from the City of Johannesburg Emergency Management Services (EMS) who lost their lives in the line of duty during a fire incident at the Bank of Lisbon building in the Johannesburg CBD last week.

Mduduzi Ndlovu, Khathutshelo Muedi, and Simphiwe Moropane, who have been hailed as unsung heroes by residents of the city, will be remembered on Wednesday, 12 September.

The memorial service programme will include a wreath-laying ceremony which will be conducted at the building where the trio lost their lives. This building is situated at the corner of Albertina Sisulu Road and Pixley Seme Street in the Johannesburg CBD. The ceremony will take place at 10am, and involve members of the three families as well as members of the EMS.

This will be followed by the main memorial service, which will be held at the Ellis Park Arena at 11:30am.

EMS spokesperson, Robert Mulaudzi provided details of the funerals of the firefighters on his Facebook page.

“Ndlovu’s funeral will be held on Sunday, 16 September at Doringkop Farm, Mavimbela Stand in Dannhausser, KwaZulu-Natal, from 10am to 1pm; while Muedi’s service will be held on Saturday, 15 September at Wamondo, Dzwerani in Limpopo, from 6am to 10am. Moropane’s funeral will be held on Friday, 14 September at the Oasis Family Church in Daveyton, from 8.30am to 11.30am,” he posted.
