Police set the record on charging intruder’s killer

The man did what any caring parent would do to protect himself and his son although this resulted in the death of one of the intruders.

The Muldersdrift Police have distanced themselves from claims that charges have been laid against the homeowner who shot and killed an intruder who endangered his life and that of his son.

In the early hours of 30 August, a 58-year-old Nooitgedacht resident risked his life to save his son, who had been held up by armed robbers on his property.

The man did what any caring parent would do to protect himself and his son, even though it resulted in the death of one of the intruders.

Muldersdrift Police spokesperson, Constable Slindile Ntuli, told the Northsider what had happened. “It is alleged that the 58-year-old resident was sleeping in his house when he heard a loud noise from the lounge window. He grabbed his shotgun, and then suddenly heard noise coming from his son’s room.”

The room where the shooting took place was left with blood stains on the floor and wall. Photos: Sourced.

“He fired a warning shot, but his son told him not to shoot as one of the intruders had a gun to his head. One of the intruders then pointed a gun out of the son’s bedroom, and the father fired a shot. During the commotion that ensued, his son managed to run out of the room. His father then fired several more shots.”

The shots led to the death of one intruder and injured the others. “One intruder, aged 28, died on the scene, and a second was injured and is under police guard in the hospital. The third intruder fled the scene while injured,” she further explained.

Photos of a room with blood patches on the floor and stains on the wall were taken by Drift Reaction Security Company at the scene. A pistol was found at the scene. According to Ntuli, this weapon had been stolen during another house robbery in Wolmaranstad.

Neither of the victims was injured in the incident.

Claims that the father could be charged with the murder of the suspect could not be confirmed by Ntuli, who said that the police are investigating the arrest of one of the suspects linked to the house robbery, who has been charged with attempted murder, and possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
