Shock among learners after peer’s demise in taxi collision

“It is a great loss to our school as he was much loved,” said Beverly in an interview.

It’s a tearful week filled with sorrow for the classmates of Craig Naidoo of La Salle College in Discovery after he passed away in a tragic collision involving a taxi this past weekend.

The God-fearing Grade 10 learner lost his life at the scene of the crash on Saturday, 25 August. The car in which Craig was a passenger was driven by his brother, who reportedly sustained serious injuries.

The accident happened in the Davidsonville area.

The loss has not only been hard to bear for his family, it also shattered his classmates, friends and the La Salle College principal, Beverly Whittal, who shared fond memories of the youngster. “It is a great loss to our school as he was much loved,” said Beverly in an interview.

Beverly said a memorial service and a moment of prayer were held to pay tribute to Craig. “The learners were shocked and heartbroken. The high school learners brought flowers to lay on the bench where he enjoyed sitting during break. We also had a moment of silence during a special assembly and speeches about him were made,” she explained.

Beverly described Craig as a unique child, who was fired up about God and helped to counsel other learners when they had bad experiences.

His funeral will be held this Saturday, 1 September, at the Liberty Church Discovery.
