Garden expo aims to increase footfall

Couples on the verge of tying the knot were spoilt for choice when the Walter Sisulu Botanical Garden hosted a garden venue open evening on 28 June.

The evening was held in partnership with To The T Events in the Strelitzia Hall, where different wedding planners, décor providers and sound system providers exhibited their services to the couples and family members in attendance.

Taryn Weare, owner of To The T Events, explained the reason behind the elegant event.

“This was actually to help the Botanical Garden to grow its business with weddings, and also to help the brides and grooms by offering our services to them to alleviate their stress,” she said.

Exhibitors Kelly Jayne’s Cake Boutique, Cream Cheese Professional DJs, Design Expression, Tammy Holliday Photography and Raikona Catering all interacted with the potential clients during the course of the event.

The garden’s curator, Xolelwa Mokoena, said such events are part of the garden’s many initiatives to increase visitors. “The Botanical Garden has a mandate to increase footfall, with one of our core performance areas being to increase visitor numbers – so our venues also play a role in income generation,” she said.

She added that the aim of the initiative was to market the garden so that it is able to meet the target of visitors to the garden while generating income. She went on to say that venue will not only benefit weddings but also other functions such as baby showers, parties and kitchen teas.
