WATCH: Panorama U/9s make history in Westbury

Pano became the first U/9 team from outside the Jowest Local Football Association to win the tournament.

The players at Panorama Football Club left their mark on history when they became the first team from outside the Jowest LFA to be crowned champions in the U/9 division.

Their journey in the tournament kicked off on 12 May with two games in the group stages, on of which they won, while the other one played out to a draw. The final group stage game came against Argentinos, whom they defeated to secure their progression to the quarterfinals on 2 June. They then defeated FC Da Boys in a penalty shootout to secure a spot in the semifinals on the same day, where they met Westbury Spurs.

Luckily for the stars from Radiokop, they only needed regular time to book a place in the final on 16 June thanks to a goal from Callum Jones.

Panorama would lock horns with Thames FC in the final in an attempt to become the first team from outside the Jowest Local Football Association (LFA) to win the tournament. On a windy, chilly morning in Westbury, the Panorama side got their game off to a great start as they dominated from the outset.

They eventually broke the deadlock thanks to a goal from Blake Bennett following a bit of a goalmouth scramble. Panorama would dominate the remainder of the game, depriving Thames of a lot of possession, while ensuring Blake’s sole goal would be enough to win them the cup.

The players were ecstatic the moment the final whistle blew and they realised they were champions of the Steven Pienaar Community Cup, and all their hard work had come to fruition.

Impressive performances were put in by the whole Panorama team as they demonstrated a mature state of mind to dominate the game and secure the trophy. Callum Jones’ hard work in the final was highlighted however, as he was awarded the Man of the Match prize by Steven Pienaar.

The team received its trophy from Steven Pienaar himself later in the day, bringing their journey at the tournament to a close.

The Panorama team will now turn their focus to their preparations for their upcoming tour to Cape Town in July.
