Allen Glen rugby takes home four league titles

Allen Glen got their historic day under way with the U/14 team taking on Alberton High School.

For the first time ever, Allen Glen High School managed to have four teams participating in the Golden Lions Rugby Union’s middle schools league finals.

The U/14 side got the day off to the best of starts by downing Alberton 36–17, claiming the first of Allen Glen’s four trophies.

Next up was what would be the closest game of the day as the U/15 boys locked horns with Bracken High School. The match kept all in attendance glued to their seats as the boys from Allen Glen managed to grind out a hard-fought 20–17 victory over their opponents.

The U/16 match against Hoërskool President High School that would follow was a slightly ill-tempered affair, as both sides started to lose their cool a bit towards the end of the game. At one point, in the last 15 minutes or so of the game, Allen Glen found themselves with only 13 men on the field.

Despite the numbers advantage, President only managed to score one try, thanks to the stubborn hardworking defence from Allen Glen. Allen Glen managed to score a try in the dying moments of the game to round off a hard-fought 28–19 victory for the third title of the day.

Lastly came the first teams, as Allen Glen clashed with Carletonville High School in a bid to make the day a clean sweep for the home side.

Allen Glen had their eyes on the prize from the get-go, as they did not just come to the party – they brought the party to the party instead.

The home side managed to run in a resounding eight tries which heavily outweighed the three that Carletonville were able to score, winning 52-17.

The win for the First XV saw Allen Glen walk away with four victories from four, as they made history by becoming the first four Allen Glen sides to win the league in the same year.
