High-speed chase in Ruimsig ends without injury

Close to midday today, BCI Security were notified of a high-speed chase involving police that luckily ended with nobody being harmed.

According to BCI Security’s public relations officer, Gary Jordaan, they were notified of the high-speed chase just before 11.30am today.

The chase occurred in the Ruimsig area and involved members of the police’s Flying Squad and Air Wing.

At the time of writing, full details surrounding the incident are not available as the police investigation is still unfolding, but Jordaan was able to shed some light on the incident.

“It is alleged that a father picked his seven-year-old son up from school and made a phone call to his estranged wife regarding the child,” Jordaan said.

He further stated that police were subsequently notified and a search was launched for the child which led to the high-speed pursuit.

A relieved Jordaan also said that the child was found safe in the parking area of Ruimsig Centre on Doreen Road where the chase came to an end.

“We are glad to report that the child was found safe and unharmed despite his ordeal,” Jordaan said.

“Several Flying Squad, K9, and Search and Rescue members descended on the car park of the Ruimsig Centre on Doreen Road. The police helicopter that assisted in the chase also landed in the car park.”

The father was subsequently arrested and taken to Honeydew Police Station for further processing and questioning.

The child was also taken to Honeydew Police Station where he was reunited with his mother and siblings.
