Way forward for Plot 323 discussed

The Member of the Mayoral Committee (MMC) for Economic Development, Ward 97 councillor Leah Knott, has reverted on the meeting held on 19 April to find a resolution for the housing crisis on Plot 323,Wilgespruit.

Knott listed all that was agreed upon after the meeting concluded between the housing department and the leaders of the community on Plot 323.

“It was agreed that ED Housing will draft a report for the appointment of a consultant for approval within the next week. Sixty days are required from appointment for the conclusion of various studies, reports and design. A simultaneous application will be made to the province for temporary emergency accommodation,” she explained, adding that failing this, housing will need to access its own budget.

She went on to say, “The MMC will work with officials on various scenarios to see if a quicker interim measure can be adopted.” Feedback is set to be provided on 23 April 2018.

“Development planning is to be engaged to fast-track this matter as a specially urgent case. During the above process, weekly progress reports will be given and a monthly meeting will be held,” the MMC concluded.
