On 9 April, the Department of Correctional Services launched a massive manhunt for the re-arrest of 16 dangerous inmates that escaped from a Joburg prison.
The wanted detainees, whose identities have been released to the public, escaped from the Johannesburg Correctional Centre, Medium B (also known as Sun City Prison) in the early hours of the morning through a pipe shaft, used an object to break the wall and then proceeded to the fence, according to reports.
They were convicted for crimes including rape, murder, armed robbery and housebreaking.
