Domestic workers acquire additional skills

Hirsch's Strubens Valley held a workshop on Wednesday, 14 March that aimed to teach domestic workers additional practical skills they can apply in their workplace.

The recent domestic workers’ workshop at Hirsch’s Strubens Valley was opened by Mbali Nhlopo, who asked the women ladies what they enjoy about being a domestic worker.

Sadly, the ladies said they didn’t have additional skills, so domestic work is simply a job, and nothing more.

Fortunately, Mbali was able to lighten the mood by reassuring them that it’s more than just a job – it’s actually something to be proud of.

The practical aspect of the workshop started off with Mbali demonstrating the correct way to make a bed. This included the correct way to fluff pillows and the right way to insert a duvet inner.

Mohammed Maal from Hirsch’s also explained the importance of steam cleaning a mattress on a monthly basis, and even demonstrated the correct way to do so.

The day ended with Yvonne Ramokgobedi and Mpho Mavhunga receiving certificates for being the Domestic Worker of the Month for February and March respectively. Both ladies received gift vouchers and the lucky draw prize of a cookbook went to a very delighted Patricia Ndlovu.
