UPDATE: Panorama Cemetery almost clean again

Johannesburg City Parks and Zoo seem to finally be restoring the Panorama Cemetery to its former glory, having been cleaning up for the last month or so.

The Northsider received two complaints in early January about the state of Panorama Cemetery during the December period, both stating that the cemetery was in an appalling state.

When visiting the cemetery ourselves, we were shocked, to say the least, at the state of the cemetery.

There was overgrown grass and weeds on gravesites, overflowing dustbins and loose foliage scattered around the cemetery.

A private gardening service had been maintaining a certain number of gravesites, so some, but only a few, were in good condition.

At the time, Johannesburg City Parks and Zoo said, “There are teams on site that are currently cutting and clearing Panorama Cemetery. Work will continue until fully resolved.”

While Johannesburg City Parks and Zoo employees have made good progress in terms of cleaning up the cemetery, they still have a way to go on the pathways. Photo: Blake Linder.

So far, Northsider can confirm that they have stayed true to their word, and the clean-up process is coming along nicely.
