Maragon Ruimsig celebrates 100 per cent pass rate for Class of ’17

They turned the page on the final chapter of their school career when they received their results on 3 January.

Maragon Ruimsig’s Class of 2017 finally bade farewell to their school.

At 12am the matrics learned how many distinctions they achieved when the Independent Examinations Board (IEB) released the results.

Coureney George, Kutlwano Motaung and Mandy Tleane were browsing through the newspaper to see if they can find their names among those listed.

IEB schools nationwide were said to have achieved a 98,76 per cent pass rate, which is a 0,9 per cent improvement on the 98,67 per cent in 2016.

Maragon Ruimsig’s 104 matrics achieved a pass rate of 100 per cent with 90 per cent of the matrics achieving a Bachelor’s degree pass (university exemption).

They also managed to carve out 1,9 distinctions per learner, which is a 0,2 per cent improvement on 2016’s number. This equates to a total of 197 distinctions for Maragon’s Class of 2017.

The learners’ hard work also saw Maragon Ruimsig place among the top one per cent nationally in seven subjects.

Despite knowing how many distinctions they had achieved, the learners had to wait until 9am on 3 January to fetch their detailed results from the school.

Friends Benitta Ngobeni, Tshego Makitla and Pfano Malado were overjoyed at each others’ results.

Learners and parents alike were welcomed with congratulations from the school’s staff, who seemed almost more excited and proud of the achievements than the learners themselves.

Maragon Ruimsig’s principal, Riaan Vorster, had the following to say to the Class of 2017:

“On behalf of the Maragon Ruimsig staff and community we would like to congratulate our matric group of 2017 on producing some outstanding results. You have exceeded expectations and we are extremely proud of each and every one of you. Well done, Class of 2017.”
