Suspects dodge arrest during big search-and-chase before New Year

It was reported that the three suspect ran into the bushes adjacent to the FNB building.

Local security vehicles and personnel; a police chopper and police officers came very close to arresting three robbery suspects.

Since local security companies and police were on high alert during the past festive season, they heeded a backup call from a security company that was chasing armed suspects near Beyers Naude Drive on 29 December 2017.

Police and security officers conduct a big search in the greenbelt for robbery suspects.

Gary Jordaan, BCI’s media liaison officer, explained that the three were suspects in a street robbery committed in Randpark Ridge. CSS officers spotted them and a chase ensued.

It was reported that two of the suspects escaped in different directions while the third ran into thick undergrowth adjacent to the FNB building.

“Officers from various security companies started searching for the suspects. They were joined by police members and a police helicopter,” Jordaan explained.

He said that the search party did come across several men who’d set up shacks among the undergrowth, but the suspect was not among them.

“Unfortunately, after an extensive but fruitless search, all services on scene stood down,” he said.
