Your phone has been submerged in water, now what?

People have various techniques for saving cellphones that have been dropped in water.

When a cellphone is submerged in water, most owners go into panic mode and try several tricks to rescue their phone from permanent damage.

The News took to the streets of Krugersdorp, looking for cheaper or cost-free ways to rescue the phones of our locals.

Mike Manana, backed by his friends, said they have helped many people save their smartphones after they were dropped into water.

“When you put your wet phone in raw rice, it will work. I’ve seen more than five people save their phones by this technique,” said the 30-year-old.

Charity Ngwenya said her phone was fixed by her brother by drying it using an electrical appliance when she mistakenly dropped it in a drain under running water. “He wiped it and immediately opened it. He removed the phone battery and dried the phone inside-out, as well as the battery. He then placed it outside in the sun and after about two hours or so he said it was dry and charged it. I couldn’t turn it on that day, but the next day, I was able to switch it back on,” said Charity.

Malebo Tau regrets only finding out about the rice technique after she’d taken her phone to the cellphone traders and technicians in Krugersdorp’s CBD. “I didn’t spend much but I could have saved it myself in the comfort of my own home,” said Malebo.

David Masango recommends his phone to all his friends as he said it dried up all on its own and he continued using it before he knew it. “I didn’t have to do anything after its immersion in water, people should invest in a good smartphone,” said David.
