Healthy baby delivered in unexpected place

The woman is believed to be walking home after her day's work as a nanny in the surrounding suburb when her waters broke.

 

A pregnant woman defied convention after giving birth in the most unexpected place on 23 October.

The pregnant lady, known as Dorcas, was attended to by paramedics at about 5pm on CR Swart Road in Roodepoort after going into labour on the side of the road.

Dorcas was believed to be walking home after her day’s work as a nanny in the surrounding suburb when her waters broke. The quick thinking, rapid response and help from the community was applauded after the birth of a healthy baby.

The woman’s employer, Tarrin Weber, also saluted a woman who stopped and assisted.

The baby and mother were left in the hands of Quick Response Service (QRS), an ambulance service that attended to the incident.

Denver Ramnarain from QRS told Northsider that the baby and mother were assessed and found to be fine. He added that a second assessment was also conducted by a local private doctor at the scene.

After the assessment, Ramnarain mentioned that a government ambulance arrived and took both patients to a nearby hospital.
