Damaged Cradlestone Mall gives to schools

"We are speaking with our insurers and as soon as we know how much we will receive, we'll be in a better position to know how much we still need." – Laerskool Muldersdrif.

In the spirit of communities coming together and helping one another after the storm, Cradlestone Mall launched #INTHISTOGETHER, providing much-needed support for Laerskool Muldersdrif and Laerskool Protearif.

Both schools have been closed due to structural damage caused by the recent tornado and accompanying storm, which wreaked havoc across Johannesburg. Parts of their roofs blew off and trees fell on surrounding structures, leaving classrooms flooded and the ground covered in rubble.

Laerskool Muldersdrif, which has been rather silent about the storm, said they were still in the process of finding out how much their insurance policy would pay out. “We are currently in the process of speaking with our insurers and as soon as we know how much we will receive, we’ll be in a better position to know how much we still need,” said Herman Byleveld, principal of Mullies.

Cradlestone Mall was also affected by the tornado disaster but came out strong after reopening for trade on Friday, 13 October, and despite all, will donate R20 000 to Laerskool Muldersdrif and another R20 000 to Laerskool Protearif.

“We also urge shoppers to please donate any school-related items to Cradlestone Mall,” said Najla Richardson, Marketing Manager for the mall. “We will ensure it reaches the schools, and thank you for your support.”
