School targeted by criminals

Four vehicles were reportedly stolen, and several others broken into and valuables stolen within minutes at a school in Wilgeheuwel early this week.

According to JHB West Responders’ spokesperson, Gary Jordaan, the incident happened on 16 October at Curro Academy Wilgeheuwel, a newly built private school in the area.

JHB West Responders is a community-based organisation that seeks to address issues of crime in partnership with various authorities and organisations.

He listed the vehicles that were stolen and their registration details:

• Red Renault Sandero Reg: CJ 23RR GP

• White VW Polo Vivo Reg: DJ 40DW GP

• Gold Polo Vivo Reg: BZ 61JY GP

• Silver Polo Reg: FJ40DNGP

He added that a tracking company gave the JHB West Responders a location on Jim Fouche Road in Constantia Kloof where the Renault Sandero.

“We were there within four minutes; unfortunately the vehicle was nowhere to be found. The car thieves had managed to remove the tracking device, which was found after a short search of the area,” he said.

Questions surrounding a security risk at the school have come into sharp focus, with concerned residents asking about security personnel at the school.

Joy Smith, the Curro stakeholder engagement officer confirmed the incident. “Curro confirms that there was an incident at the school. It is currently under investigation. The safety and security of our learners remain our priority,” she said.

However, questions relating to the incident and how the affected staff were coping were not answered.
