Poortview collision leaves four injured

Paramedics found both wrecked vehicles in the middle of the road at about 8.10pm.

Four people were left injured on 13 October following a head-on collision between two light motor vehicles on Doreen Road in Poortview.

ER24’s Russel Meiring said ER24 paramedics, along with other services, arrived on the scene at approximately 8.10pm and found both wrecked vehicles in the middle of the road.

“Upon closer inspection, paramedics discovered two men, both in their 20s, lying inside one of the light motor vehicles. A man, woman and child were found in the second vehicle.”

“Paramedics assessed the patients and found that one man had sustained critical injuries while the other had sustained serious injuries. The woman and child were assessed and found to have sustained minor injuries. The man with them fortunately escaped injury,” Meiring explained.

He added that the patients were carefully extricated from the vehicle, treated and the critically injured provided with advanced life-support interventions.

“Once the patients had been treated, the critically injured patient was airlifted by a private medical helicopter while the remaining patients were transported by ambulance to nearby hospitals,” he said.

The exact cause of the collision is not yet known but local authorities were on the scene for further investigations, Meiring concluded.
