Read about the three most targeted vehicles and prominent hijacking hotspots in Gauteng.

Social media has proved its worth after information about a hijacked vehicle was circulated and led to the speedy recovery of the expensive vehicle this week.

Local authorities worked hand in hand on 4 October when the occupants of a Range Rover were hijacked on their driveway in Roodekrans.

BCI Security’s Rudi Holtzhausen reported that a partner in a car dealership and his family were hijacked at gunpoint by four suspects. He said the victims fortunately managed to exit the vehicle unharmed.

“The four gunmen then drove off in the hijacked Land Rover. Once they reached William Street in Poortview they stopped and started to strip the vehicle, looking for the tracking unit,” said Rudi, “but they couldn’t find it.”

“A client of DMS Security saw the vehicle with its bonnet open standing on William Street. He alerted the security company as he thought it was a drug deal taking place.

“DMS officers circulated the post about the incident. BCI TRT responded to the scene and established that the vehicle was from Land Rover Constantia, and contacted the necessary people to attend to the scene,” Rudi explained, adding that police, Tracker, ER24 and AgriForum West Rand attended to the scene.

In a recent article published by Business Tech, vehicle tracking company Ctrack revealed the three most targeted vehicles.

According to them, the VW Polo is the most hijacked passenger vehicle in the country, while the Toyota Fortuner is the most hijacked SUV, and Ford is the third most targeted manufacturer.

The report also revealed that these vehicles are most targeted because of their dominance in the car market.

Ctrack also listed the top five hijacking spots in Gauteng, namely Honeydew, Booysens, Roodepoort, Linden and Brooklyn.
