Kiddies’ fun affair on Mandela Day
Little ones have an awesome Mandela Day at school.
Little ones from Leap Nursery and Pre-school in Honeydew made their bid for Mandela Day when they prepared over 1 000 sandwiches for the needy in Soweto.
The kiddies, aged between one and five, could not control their taste buds as they fiddled with plastic knives and spoons while making the yummy jam sandwiches.
Some children spent most of the 67 minutes feeding themselves with jam and margarine and even sometimes eating the bread. The school made sure that they separated the sandwiches that were meant for the cause.

Alyla Neeleman, the school’s curriculum enrichment coordinator, said this was a joint initiative between parents, children and the school.
“Everything was made possible by the parents. The parents donated bread, jam and butter.
The school is collecting the sandwiches made by our children for the Supper Foundation which will distribute the sandwiches in Freedom Park, Soweto,” she said.
She added that the 67 minutes was also part of an engagement lesson, teaching the children about giving back to the less fortunate and also about celebrating the life of the late former president, Nelson Mandela.
