Honeydew Trauma Centre says thank you

HONEYDEW – The trauma centre at Honeydew Police Station appreciates Good Samaritans in the community for beautifying the centre

Carmel Wassman, administrator of the Honeydew Community Policing Forum, thanked all volunteers, schools and organisations that have played a role in the refurbishment of the local trauma centre.

The Honeydew trauma centre is located at Honeydew Police Station and it is affiliated to the CPF.

The unit is manned by a team of trained professionals and volunteers who offer support and trauma debriefing to victims of crime and other traumatic experiences.

Their aim is to diffuse the feeling of helplessness, loss of control, and the subsequent anger and depression that may follow a traumatising incident.

Wassman said the centre relies on individuals and organisations for donations.

“We [receive] donations from various organisations for our comfort packs. Matla a Bana decorated the room and a number of other organisations and individuals assisted with tidying up the place and buying toys,” she said.

According to Wassman local nursery schools have donated teddy bears as well.

Recently the centre received teddy bears from Happy Hearts Playschool, a nursery school in Weltevreden Park.

A year ago the teddy bear spree came from Little Playschool in the same area.

Some of the teddy bears were donated to an organisation in Zandspruit.

CPF spokesperson Jon Rosenberg said, “The Honeydew CPF offers free trauma counselling to victims of crime and relies on donations to exist.”
