Allen’s Nek’s Glen Macnamara is on a duathlon roll and is off to New Zealand

ALLEN'S NEK – Macnamara's run/bike/run stints are earning him titles.

Allen’s Nek’s Glen Macnamara is on form after winning two recent races and taking second place in a third race.

Over the past three months, Macnamara, who has seen the world as a triathlete and duathlete, started his winning streak with a convincing win in the Bloemfontein duathlon.

“I had a solid first run in Bloem and then proceeded to open up a considerable lead on the bike. I was very pleased with my bike leg that day. I felt so strong,” he said.

Glenn Macnamara is on a winning streak.

In his next race in Germiston, the seasoned athlete was sent the wrong way by a race official during the first 10km, costing him his third straight win. He came second, eight seconds after the winner.

“Other than that mishap I had a good race. I was happy with the way I felt on the day.”

His most recent race was at Buffelspoort Dam on what he called a tough and testing course.

After the flat course, Macnamara caught up to and led his opponents on the long inclines and steep hills.

“The final 10km run was hot and challenging. I managed to extend my lead over the distance to record my second victory in three races. I’m just grateful the races have gone so [well],” he said.

After a break of several years from international duathlons, Macnamara decided to make an unplanned return to the run/bike/run format of the sport, winning a New Zealand race.

He plans to compete in the Panasonic People’s Race in New Zealand again this year.

Despite being a successful athlete, he self-published his first motivational book last year and is in the process of self-publishing another.
