UPDATE: Armed suspects charged at police station

STRIJDOM PARK – Court date set for Sasol garage armed robbers.

STRIJDOM PARK – Charges of business robbery, possession of stolen property, unlicensed firearms and ammunition have been laid against five suspects at Honeydew police station.

The suspects aged between 27 and 36 were arrested on 2 March by CSS Security in conjunction with the police for allegedly robbing a Sasol Garage on Beyers Naude Drive, Strijdom Park.

Captain Balan Muthan, police spokesperson confirmed the arrests.

He said, “five suspect aged 27 to 36 were arrested after a robbery at the garage by police and two firearms and goods were recovered.”

Ahead of the arrest, a car chase and shootout ensued between the armed gang and CSS Security with backup from the police.

CSS Security reacted to the robbery in progress after an employee pressed a panic button to alert them.
The five suspects allegedly robbed the garage of an undisclosed amount of money and packs of cigarettes which were later recovered after their arrest. They were also found to be in possession of two firearms.

The suspects were apprehended on the highway heading north after a high-speed chase. Their vehicle was forced off the road by backup units.

Muthan added that the suspects are expected to appear at Roodepoort Magistrate’s Court on 7 March.
