Boxer’s spirit continues despite defeat

HONEYDEW – Honeydew Fight Club boxer calls for a rematch after his title defeat this past Saturday...

It is back to the drawing board for disappointed Honeydew Fight Club boxer Percy ‘The Kool Kid’ Mkhize following his title match defeat on 26 November.

Mkhize (23) lost the Gauteng championship title to Mpho Seforo in an enthralling match held at Centenary Hall in Krugersdorp.

After rising to the occasion and giving his opponent all he had during the 10-round fight, the Soweto-born boxer is now, however, calling for a rematch.

“I lost the fight on points. I’m very disappointed with how things worked out, but I hope to get a rematch soon to level the score,” said Mkhize.

This was Mkhize’s third fight against Seforo, with both fighters having met twice before in other fighting divisions.

“I hope to come back strong[er] and with a fresh mindset of my opponent. He is not much trouble, however, I need to go back to our fight [clip] and study him very well,” Mkhize said.

Whether or not a rematch is on the cards in future is unclear, however, the young fighter will soon hit the boxing bag once again to revive his boxing spirit.
