A Southern Fling

Local band, Jasper Dan recently released their debut album, A Southern Fling.

Lead singer, Jamie Hendry, said he did not expect their music to take off like it did but it is the most amazing feeling to play a song that resonates with someone. “It is very humbling and we are blessed,” Hendry added.

The album contains a good mix of Southern Rock influences entrenched in all those Jasper Dan songs which have become favourites with their steady following. It was produced by South African musician and producer, Mark Beling.

Hendry explained they spoke to fans while working on the album so it includes the fan favourites but there are also some surprise tracks that no one has heard of as well as an acoustic track. Hendry’s favourite track on the album is Voodoo Soul.

Band members Paul Harley, Daz Roux and Gert Griessel and Hendry mingled with fans and performed at their album launch party at Rumours Lounge on 12 November, where the album was on sale. The rest of the night’s lineup saw the likes of The Sinners, State Society, Dirty Moonshine, Gunslinger and Zephyr Heirs.

Fans who missed the party can get their hands on a hard copy of the album at Jasper Dan gigs or it is available for download on iTunes.

The band will be working towards bringing out another album next year and looks forward to more performances with Durban band, The Sinners.
