The meeting was attended by CPF representatives of sectors 1–4, station commander of the Honeydew police, Colonel Joseph Mncwabe, Ward 101 councillor Dalu Cele and Metro police.
Sector 1 includes areas of Randburg such as North Riding and surrounding areas. Sector 2 includes all the suburbs on the left side of Christiaan de Wet Road if one is heading towards Clearwater Mall. On the right-hand side of Christiaan de Wet Road is Sector 3. Zandspruit and Cosmo City fall under Sector 4.
At the meeting, attendees had the opportunity to get a broad overview of crime statistics in the areas and what one should be on the lookout for.
According to the stats, the major issue in Sector 1 is robberies; Sector 2 has been the quietest sector in terms of crime incidents, but theft out of motor vehicles is a problem; while Sector 3 has major issues of theft out of motor vehicles; and assault is a problem in Sector 4.
The type of crimes most common on specific days of the week were also highlighted. Theft out of motor vehicles and break-ins are most common on a Monday. While a Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday are common for theft out of motor vehicles. Residential robberies mostly occur on a Thursday. Common assault and malicious damage to property are common on a Saturday and assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm is the most prevalent on a Sunday.
There has been a spike in theft of motor vehicle crimes, especially of vehicles like Toyotas and Volkswagens. Mncwabe said that in most of the crime categories, there has been a decrease in statistics. Mncwabe mentioned that hijackings have increased along Malibongwe Drive.
